Even simple tasks, like running a series of applications or copying files, can be quite tedious if you perform them on a daily basis. Automating repetitive tasks through macros has been a possibility since the old days, before Windows 95, and it is still an excellent solution for executing any simple or complex action with a single click. This is the functionality that MacroX5 has to offer. It allows you to automate any tasks, by setting up a series of actions, one by one or by recording your own actions. The software has a simple design, but it comes with enough features to satisfy both novice and advanced users.

The application's setup file is roughly one and a half MB and you can have MacroX5 up and running almost instantly, with a single click. It works on Windows XP, Vista, Win 7 and Win 8, as well as teh 2003 and 2008 Server editions. The application does not require powerful hardware, but it needs .NET Framework 4.0 or a later version.

The software includes a broad range of predefined actions, which are neatly organized in a tree structure, on the left side of the user interface. You can set up one or more actions by typing their corresponding commands and parameters, in separate lines or by simply double clicking a predefined action. There are numerous actions available, from simple ones, like file manipulation, keyboard and mouse input to advanced ones, such as setting up proxies or installing services.

In most cases, when you insert a predefined action, you have to target a file and make other specifications, on a small window. The application will ask you to select different items and make other specifications, depending on what action you wish to insert. Inserting functions and sub-functions, with parameters of your choice is another possibility.

Besides typing commands or inserting predefined actions, you can also record your macros. All you have to do is hit the Record option, located on a toolbar and perform the actions you wish to record. You may click a Play button, on the same toolbar, to execute your macros, regardless of how you create them. Macros can be saved, so you can play them as often as you need. Another useful feature is the possibility of exporting macros as EXE files, which gives you the possibility of running a macro on any other computer.

Pros

Macros can be created in various ways. The software allows you to type commands, insert predefined actions or record your own actions. You can export your macros as EXE files, which can be used on other computers.

Cons

There are no obvious drawbacks to mention. With MacroX5, even the most complex procedures can be executed right away, with nothing more than a single click.
